Gayle Aker Rodriguez

As the owner of GALLERY 201, Gayle Aker Rodriguez had a clear vision of what she wanted to achieve in the arts: create a venue for local, Mexican and south Texas artists to display their work; provide a creative space for students to take classes and display their work; develop exciting, new artistic experiences for the local community as well as tourists.

Gayle grew up in Laredo, graduated from Nixon High School, attended Laredo Community College, St Edwards University and Texas A&M International University.

Besides her work, Gayle has been involved in many groups and organizations which help bring change and encourage cultural stimulation in Laredo. She has been a member of Women’s City Club, The Princess Pocahontas Council, The Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra Board of Directors, The Laredo Philharmonic Chorale, The Laredo Art League and The Laredo Center for the Arts as well as participating in many student art exhibits at Laredo Community College and TAMIU.

Gayle is a member of the LLUSCBA, Laredo Main Street, and participates in the monthly Caminarte Art Walk sponsored by the Laredo Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Tom Miller

Tom Miller has served as a past president of the Monte Mucho Audubon Society and has been a contributor to the Cornell University Bird Watch for 10 years. But he is mostly notorious for his 20 years of service as the Executive Director of the Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center before retiring in 2020. Besides welcoming thousands of students at the center and hosting community events each year, Miller has become an advocate on local issues like the plastic bag ban, the green space ordinance, and on topics regarding the environment.

Miller’s knowledge ranges in all sorts of topics, from alligators, to water life, and all sorts of reptiles. Since the beginning, Miller saw the potential the center had in our community and continues to have. He might have retired as director, but Miller says you’ll find him at the center on volunteer days and hopes the next generation will join him on his journey.

Bianca Brewster

Bianca Brewster is an environmental scientist and consultant with 14 years of experience working on the field. Bianca is currently a PhD candidate for Environmental Engineering at TAMUK, She obtained her Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science and her Masters in Biology from Texas A & M International University. Bianca owns a small environmental consulting firm "Brewster Environmental Quality Services" and was recently appointed as the Director for the Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center at Laredo College.

She is also a bird enthusiast, and runs a small bird rehabilitation and rescue group for avian species and other wildlife called "Laredo Avian Rehabilitation, Transport and Education" as a hobby. She hopes to bring more awareness to the needs of companion birds and to establish a rescue aviary in Laredo.
